Oh, I totally agree and am even doing just that as we speak. Hoping it doesn't go down the drain before it works out.

One thing I have learned about all this is that it's a really good idea to not have all of your eggs in one basket. It's also a good idea to make money or get ahead any way that you can, while you can.

To return to the Greek situation and earlier discussion.

This article is posted today 7/14/15 and it confirms the fear that I mentioned in this thread.  It is a two page report.

http://etfdailynews.com/2015/07/14/greeks-cant-tap-cash-gold-silver-in-bank-safety-deposit-boxes/

This is linked to the original report from Reuters:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/07/05/eurozone-greece-cash-idUSA8N0XO00920150705

This is why we (me and you and everyone else) does NOT want to keep valuables in bank vaults / deposit boxes.

These people, in Greece, have just lost the hope of someday pulling those reserves out to live on. I would also guess that they are also being prevented from withdrawing any documents which they might have thought to be safe, since the banks are still closed to public entry.

Heads up.

This is a great reminder, thanks for posting it. I've always wondered why someone would use a bank box, it seems silly to me.

The real question is, when do the riots start in Greece. At this rate, my guess is that it won't be long.

So it took Greece about 10 days after the election to get to the riot stage.

The lesson I see is that we may have this much or less time if we face a similar situation.

I can think of a few things that might drive Americans to the riot stage.

Current events, here, seem to point at next year's elections, but there are other political factors
that are also getting some media attention.

I'm of the opinion that a social breakdown will happen quickly, rather than a gradual slide.  Of course, we've been in a slow downward slide for literally years.

Look at the past events which led to riots in single cities.  If we reach the point of effecting multiple cities, that is a major warning sign.

All quiet on the front, sir.  But the natives are restless tonight.

Returning to my post #25, below, I have more information about Greece going back to the Drachma currency unit.

I cannot vouch for the true of this report...

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-07-21/tsipras-asked-putin-10-billion-print-drachmas-greek-media-reports

Note that this is called a "media report" and not an official government announcement...

If this happens, the currency will have nothing (really nothing) to back it.  Our own US Dollar is only backed by the 'good faith and credit' of the US population.  Greece doesn't even have that.

The US 'printing press' is still running full time, even if the money is not actually physical notes.  It cost less to make electronic money.

Greece, on the other hand, needs physical notes to keep the economy running.  People cannot get enough physical notes with the current limit on withdrawal from cash machines.

The point being, this is what could happen here.  It is a warning to keep a stash of cash, just in case...

One more example of why we prep:  Venezuela is in bad shape too

http://dailycaller.com/2015/07/21/venezuelan-government-forces-companies-to-hand-over-food-as-shortages-intensify/

quoted from the article:

"The compulsory reallocation of food to government-owned stores could have serious consequences for supply and distribution."

Since our US food supply is mostly located in regional warehouses, not local stores, this situation could easily play out here.

I've been following this guy's blog using a translator. It's got some good observations worth sharing.

Greek Preparedness Blog] http://greekpreparedness.blogspot.gr/?m=1]Greek Preparedness Blog

China had a nice little fall today too. This reminds me of what happened here in 2008, so I feel bad for the folks over there right now.

Clay, it appears that China is pumping and dumping.  They are flooding new internal currency (Yuan) and dumping a lot of US dollars on the world market.

The image is people in a leaky boat, bailing as fast as they can from one side, while the other side is pouring buckets of water back in the boat...

Real similar to what our Fed. Reserve is doing here...

Meanwhile, Gold and Silver are in a buyer market.  Wish I could afford any amount at these prices.

To continue this saga, Venezuela appears (by report) to be nationalizing food produced by commercial farmers.

http://www.naturalnews.com/050695_Venezuelan_farmers_socialist_government_food_supply.html

According to the report, "farmers and food producers" are now required to sell from 30% to 100% of their production to government stores.  There are three sources reported and linked for this information, all major media new outlets...

I view Venezuela as being about 5 to 10 years farther down this road than the US.  But that could be much closer, depending on how the US dollar fairs as the world reserve currency.

Keep an eye on this.
