If you raise your own chickens for eggs, read the article, particularly as it relates to Salmonella on eggs and whether you should be washing your eggs.
I note the comment about commercial eggs being lightly oiled. I did not know this was being done and I have my personal doubts about how effective it is. Oiling eggs is a known way to make them last longer, but only if they are clean to begin with...
