This is not gruesome, so please do take time ti read it.  It could save your life someday.

There are several helpful hints in this, for instance, removing the oil gland at the base of the tail.

If you don't want to do the feather plucking, you can simply de-skin a bird.  You lose some of the fats, which may be needed for health, but it works and is faster than plucking.  Or you can have your kids do the plucking...
