This does work, but your yield may not be a large as shown in the article.  Practice will increase yield.

Drainage is important here.  Also you need to understand that the potatoes grow off of the STEM, not the roots, so plant the seed potato low in the bucket, cover with about 4 inches of soil and wait until the plant grows at least 6 inches high and then add more soil, mulch and let the plant grow up again.  You can repeat this process until the bucket is full of soil/mulch and then allow the plant to grow to full height.

Potatoes LIKE sunlight, so you need access to good light or have electric grow-lights ready when the seed sprouts.
