Bug-in vs Bug_out scenarios
« on: October 12, 2015, 10:42:40 AM »
This is a short article on what might happen for those who plan on "bugging out" from an urban area in the
event of a SHTF event.

http://survivalblog.com/the-harsh-truth-about-bugging-out-of-cities-by-patrice-lewis/

It is worth considering the points raised in the article.

I can make the argument for moving before such an event.

I have much more trouble justifying staying in an urban environment after an event.

It really is all situational. It just depends on what the circumstances are. If it is a wide spread event over all or even most of the city, then bugging out some distance is probably good. But if it is localized, such as some of the floods we have had, then bugging local is still a good idea. Friends, family, motels, casinos, city parks, etc., can be used as locations.

Just my opinion.

Jerry, thanks for pointing out the alternatives to a total SHTF event.  I do tend to think in those large terms,
and I miss the smaller event (like my bike accident).

Anything that has more than local scope might be what it takes to trigger social unrest (as addressed in the OP article).
These are events which worry me more than anything else and for which most of my prepping effort addresses.

I see that my preps are likely to be missing the simpler problems which can occur.   Now I just need a few more days in the week to work on them...
Thanks again.
