Title: What the Pioneers took with them
Post by: TWP on July 08, 2015, 02:00:19 PM
This is a thread on the Prepper Forum and it contains a link to a news story on USA Today (yeah, I know).

I'm posting both links because the comments on Prepper Forum are worth reading as they relate to our own prepper stores.

Please note the list of supplies taken by a "family of four".  add any fresh game along the way and assume water was augmented by whatever sources the wagon train could find.

This is a Five month trip, under heavy physical labor.  I'm comparing my plans for post SHTF event and even if we don't have to move, we are short on food.

It is worth making the comparison to your own prepping stocks...

Here are a couple of searches for similar ideas. Various expedition lists and exploration ships lists:

Some interesting reading on some of the sites I have been on before.

Just my opinion.

Jerry, thanks for the search links.

I just read Shackelford's list for the 1907 Antarctic expedition.  I'm missing a "few" items...

This is educational when you remember that they were almost totally reliant on what they brought with them.

Except for water and a few seals and penguins, They had to carry it all with them.

If I can do even half as well, I feel much more comfortable about my chances.

Dog food, don't forget the dog food!
