(upd 11/2/17) Article - Preps and Practice, Part 1,2
« on: November 01, 2017, 11:00:27 AM »
This is a multi-part article, I'll update this post as the other parts become available.

Part 1)  https://survivalblog.com/preps-practice-part-1-armedsafety/

The author describes, in good detail, his prepping Prior to hurricane Harvey, what they found on returning after evacuation and how well those preps worked.  Do note the comment about a cell phone recharger battery...

Part 2)  https://survivalblog.com/preps-practice-part-2-armedsafety/

This part discusses some physiological effects of enduring a crisis, specifically dehydration and some ways to address this.  Also addressed are cooking when the electricity goes out, water rations (one gallon per person per day is NOT reality, it is merely a bare minimum to sustain a none-working person).  There is a good explanation of how to handle sewage when your water system is down (no, you cannot / should not pour water into the toilet tank) and offers his solution during the hurricane Harvey crisis.

One very important point is made, the author was called away by his employer, during the crisis and his family had little or no idea on how to manage.  This shows where training is a major component of prepping, everyone in a group should have a minimum set of skills, enough to actually use the tools, gear and supplies in ones prepper stockpile.

From the article:

Quote
Final Thoughts So my final thought on this disaster area survival is to have the tools needed to survive for several weeks. Food, water, shelter, and protection are the necessities. Know how to use what you have, and have a backup plan for when that doesn’t work. Teach those around you how to do it. Get everyone involved in every step from canning food, using a camp stove, making a toilet, shooting a gun, and every other step.
