This is a good article on how one person makes food for their dogs from, mostly, food scraps.

Note the warning on liver.  I was not aware of this possible problem (Vitamin A toxicity).  I don't eat livery anymore, but that is because of the excessive use of antibiotics by the cattle industry, which the liver may collect in higher than healthy quantities. Do your own due diligence on this.
