I cannot say this will work for you, but TSHTF and you are stuck with finding a non-commercial treatment...

Since my father had shingles and suffered greatly, and the fact that I am a major wimp, I got the vaccine a few months ago. I have no wish to go through what my father did.

Costco is the cheapest place to get your shot. Most medical plans will cover it, but it is very expensive. If you go to Costco and use your plan the price is really cheap as oppose to other places.
